this is mostly a writeback to dave slusher, but should be of general interest too...
the quote in my title has been in my sig for years - simply because it still entertains me (and usually others the first time they notice it)...
it is at it's core a statement of time-shifting - which today is becoming more and more a part of reality...
not of course "really" going backwards (yet) - but w/ the adoption of things like tivo/pvr and now podcasting for automating the nomadic audio process (soon video), you're able to shift what you watch or listen to to a better time and location for you're personal preferences, all pretty seamlessly...
now as the queue fills up (credit to dave) the ability to get to everything (my wife and i finally finished watching the last episode of soprano's from 6/6 yesterday) and especially w/ podcasting listen to multiple ping-ponged "pert" audio threads is becoming complex...
both for those listening and for those producing - sometimes the references are out of sequence - time shifted...
the content is still interesting, but the context is sometimes jumbled slightly...
i noticed this in dave's egc program from the 25th, which i didn't get to listen to until lunch time @ the gym today (another good location to partake of audioblogs - makes the time on the bike, stairmaster, weights whatever go by w/ some fun topics to think about...
anyway, dave got on the topic of a couple of comments that scott rafer of feedster made during a recent gillmor gang show via it conversations - i'd heard that too, all normal stuff - statements made in error (if you've ever been on a panel - these things happen) anyway the time shifted part is what's been going on in dave's comments between scott and him - funny stuff, not flame related at all - more collaborative than anything...
by the time dave had recorded, editing and published his show - scott had pinged him via comments on one of his posts - no damage was done...
it conversations is great, i know steve and mike vizard and have meet jon udell and dave sifry - so it's fun to hear the discussions, agendas and banter - but again, their show is somewhat time sensitive, and when you shift the listening that has to be taken into account...
btw dave - it was mike vizard who was talking about the publisher consumer feedback loop - not jon udell...
so it's all good on the audioblog development front - we just have to remember to listen in order to all the blossoming podcasts - or ignore the time shift and enjoy whatever one we happen to be listening to at the time - sounds like a silly love song - strange :-p
oh and dave, it's honorable to go for the payday...
