"the grumpy dickhead podcast"
damn - i go snowboarding w/ my two yuts for a long weekend, and i miss all the fun ;)
oh well, the fresh powder at stratton was great...
so other than the - who really gave birth to podcasting - which i've already commented on enough, what's really neat about this post from dave - is the announcement of a potentially new podcast - the grumpy dickhead podcast or gdp for short...
to be fair though, someone in podville has already been labeled grumpy, and seems to agree w/ the assessment, so we don't want to take that credit or label away from that person - because that would be advocating revisionist history ;)
in fact, in keeping w/ the grumpy theme - i think i will change my mind and jump back in to this credit game by naming podcasters i think most emulate the seven dwarfs:
grumpy - dave winer of morning coffee notes (the podfather himself - again, he usually informs us when in fact he is grumpy)...
bashful - drew domkus of the dawn and drew show or eric rice of the eric rice show or dave slusher of egc - all three are so worthy it's hard to pick just one - don't you think...
sleepy - jason evangelho of insomnia radio (as the name implies)...
sneezy - dawn miceli of dnds (show #40)
doc - doc searls of the gillmor gang (duh)
happy - adam curry of the daily source code (always - unless he gets tipsy w/ dnd and then does a podcast to discuss the state of us air travel)
dopey - mark miller of mondays (among other such descriptive names he seems to be called daily)
there i'm done - now i do expect "my" credit when the history is written chronicling how any of the above got their podville nicknames (except doc who already had his) :-p
seriously though, the comment section of one of dave's previous posts (bringing up harold-gate - a must read btw) is interesting, because harold himself joined the conversation and added two rich comments that shouldn't be buried in dave's comments - they should be posted to the wikipedia definition of podcasting - i think the lazy in the media will tend go to easy, constantly repeated places, not your blog or even dave's - only the good and thorough ones will dig and find your stuff...
btw - wikipedia needs some serious funding and "how to scale" assistance - the slow response times and constant outages are obviously due to their extreme popularity, but it really hurts the case being presented to leverage it as a resource :-p
so i'll come out of the closet - no, not that closet - i'm married to the same wifer for 20+ yrs, instantiating two teenage boys along the way ;)
the podcasting closet - when i first posted the term "podcasting" to the wikipedia, the defining concepts came from a dave slusher post, it was an attempt to use the right tool to provide an unbiased self-correcting resource that could be modified by the community at-large, so that it wouldn't fracture the concept of podcasting because of a lexicon issue regarding the term podcasting...
remember that towards the end of sept. 04 - the battle over the term podcasting was brewing...
checkout dave's comment to that post - he's like the a bulldog that keeps running back in to the fight, ya gotta love it ;)
anyway, what's interesting is that harold and lucas both picked up on the addition of podcasting to the wikipedia and commented on it, harold in his blog and lucas, along w/ eric rice and myself, in the comment section of that post from harold...
lucas said:
"A simple and hype-free way of describing it -- coolness."
why not go add you're two cents then or any of the months after harold - you're articulate, you have knowledge, experience and are worthy - why not join in?
and lucas, in your about page you have this great line:
"The [Decentralization] list was arguably responsible for the spread of the term "decentralization" to describe P2P, so I take indirect pride when I hear senators and journalists repeat it."
you've obviously contributed in very constructive ways, across a variety of technological efforts, w/ "indirect pride" even, what's different here - why not constructively add your opinions to wikipedia and let the community join in?
podcasting, audioblogging or dave's new favorite audification, errr auditoration, errr auditious, no wait, wait, i got it audication - that's it -> anyway, podcasting needs help building itself from within not chipping away from the outside - especially by those obviously intently interested in it, no matter what it's called - including you david lusky - whose humorous munge of podcasting is worthy of pete...
i hope all of the above is viewed as it's intended, mostly constructive, some humor and w/ a dash of <sarcasm> added for flavor :)
and of course if you disagree, my comment and trackback lines are open - operators will be standing by to take your calls...
update: i have added two historically focused posts by both harold and lucas to my every growing sidebar podcasting primer, they're both well done and thorough from each of their perspectives - they deserve exposure, so just doing my humble best to educate and evangelize :)

Hey dude,
Thanks for the shout out. About contributing to wikipedia, this is stupid but I'm kind of intimidated by it.
