Podcasting News: 5 Myths of Podcasting: Myth 1 - Podcasting is Tivo for Radio
my title references one of eric's favorite mantra's, its all about automatically receiving podcasts that you can listen to whenever, where ever and however you want - that is on-demand...
time-shifted is all about something that has a regular schedule that you want to be able to delay to consume at a later time, but it does imply using the same method to do so...
elle's post is the first of 5 aimed at breaking down common myths of podcasting (isn't it amazing to be sitting here discussing a myth of something that hasn't even been around for a year yet - no disrespect intended towards the pre-podders - you know who you are)...
everything elle points out about podcasting is accurate...
the tivo points are slightly off though (tivo does have competition - cable is rolling out pvr/dvr's as fast as their contracts will allow them to & tivo's negative impact on advertising is a fallacy) - at least from my perspective, being an extremely early adopter of tivo (i own three - yes we are tivo addicts in our house, we can never go back) and having the media industry background i do - but that's ok, the analogy elle attempts to make is close enough...
podcasting is a standard owned by no one (nor will it be - not apple, msft, yahoo or others) and tivo is a epg-based service that has been under-subscribed...
as for podcasting's subscription rate, as mary points out - it's growing at an extremely rapid pace...
definitely looking forward to the next 4 myths :)

Thank. God.
