disclosure: i am the person that introduced charlene to the term podcasting and i enjoy catching up w/ her at conferences from time to time...
Charlene Li's Blog: Forrester podcasting report - just 1% use podcasts
"Podcasts have hit the mainstream consciousness but have not yet seen widespread use. One-quarter of online consumers express interest in podcasts, with most interested in time-shifting existing radio and Internet radio channels. Companies that are interested in using podcasts for their audio should focus not only on downloads but also on streaming audio as a means to get their content and ads to consumers."
first, i haven't been doing much blogging about anything, let alone podcasting this past winter because of my obsession w/ snowboarding - we'll stratton closed last weekend after a great season from my family's perspective so its back to having some weekend time to blog again...
now as for this post from charlene and the report it references, my company is a client of forrester, but i haven't read the report yet so i won't comment on it - but frankly, while i like charlene and always enjoy talking to her when our paths cross, i just never learn much that's new for me from folks like forrester - the reports just aren't aimed at me...
this has been my experience for the latter part of my career, and i don't make it lightly or out of arrogance - it's just the reality of the situation, i am an emerging media technologist, i am looking at and reacting to the extreme edge of the media industry and the technology related trends that are effecting it...
groups like forrester are all about providing reports and analysis that mainstream industry can learn from - and don't get me wrong, the reports that they provide are highly useful to their clients - they just aren't relevant to me personally...
now as for the specifics of charlene's post and some of what's implied regarding the findings that are contained in the full report - on the surface they seem to make sense given the true audience a forrester report is aimed at, traditional businesses...
again, i'll have to reserve judgement until i read the full thing, but i imagine it'll be like any survey based research and assessment - multiple sources should be considered before forming an opinion and strategy for a company (or individual), just reading one analyst's point-of-view and then following like sheep isn't going to get it done...
as for charlene's personal tastes regarding podcasts that are relevant for her - right on, that is the beauty of podcasting, anyone can choose what they want or don't want, it's all about personal choice...
as for not being able to find original content (i like calling it authentic media better) granted that can be challenging with all the new additions to podville, i recommend amigofish - the absolute best way to find new podcasts that will resonate with you...
