passionate for podcasting

i heard a well known media personality speak today about their storied career - they stated very simply that the passion they felt daily for their profession was the reason for their success...

it made me think about the state that podcasting finds itself in today, a little over two years since it started and by most accounts meteorically successful - though some naysayers state that its not at all mainstream yet or others claim its jumped the shark & finally some saying its used up its 15 minutes - no matter, those with the passion for podcasting will outlast the naysayers...

when podcasting first started, there were many passionate folks involved - some on the creation side, some on the listener side and those on the software development side - yes even a few who were passionate on all three fronts - the thing that i saw in all areas was a passion for the potential, you could hear it in the podcasts, you could see it in iteratively improving software development efforts and you could feel it from the listeners as they interacted w/ both the creative souls putting their everything into each podcast and the constructive feedback provided to the software developers, which was less about reporting a bug than it was a communal attempt to help push the functionality forward...

the common trait that i saw when podcasting first started was the passion for discovery and learning about this nascent creative capability - bound by the mantra "there are no rules in podcasting"...

today, podcasting has matured enough to include a number of obvious bandwagon jumper oners and charlatans seeking to benefit from the hype but transparently non-passionate - every new thing goes through this phase unfortunately, but i have faith that the truly passionate will prevail - folks like: mike geoghegan & doug kaye of gigavox who've put everything into their new podcasting company - greg galant of radiotail - rob sufato of podcast nyc & dave slusher of amigofish - just to name a few among the thousands and thousands that share the passion (disclosure: those passionate folks mentioned are all friends of mine who i've meet via my equally passionate interest in podcasting)...

so heres to the folks w/ a passion for podcasting, for some its a hobby, some are transitioning to a new career and some are betting the farm on it - all are in it for the love and passion of it w/ their eyes wide open but their ears closed to the naysayers :)

You're getting right to the heart of the matter with this post.

The people who stick with podcasting are passionate to the point that they're always looking for new companions in the craft. And judging by the flood of PodCamp Un-Conferences we're equally passionate about educating people on the medium.

And with all that is happening, there isn't one individual or organization that is driving the bus.

Inspite of what the naysayers think or say, the community is growing steadily and will continue to grow nicely for the foreseeable future.

This is exactly the word I've been groping for to explain why I podcast.

As with PodcastNYC, I agree that this thing is in its infancy. The best is truly yet to come.

As a heads up, I refer to this blog entry in my latest episode. I incorrectly call this blog the "Audio Nomad." Sorry.
